Creatively Redeeming Treasures Team Blog Hop June 2013

"Welcome to the Creatively Redeeming Treasures Team Blog Hop if you are coming from Kara LaSala's blog you are in the right place. We will be doing this Hop every month on the 19th so make sure to scribe to my blog so that you won't miss any of the great projects!

To create this card I cut out 12 hexagons at 1.5" in Lagoon with my Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge. I then cut out 12 hexagons at 1.25" from two different pieces of B&T papers from the For Always paper packet. I mounted these smaller hexagons onto the larger ones. I then laid out my pattern until I was happy with it. I admit, that took a little time to get it just right. I attached them to a piece of Honey card stock that measure 4-7/8" x 3-5/8", trimmed the excess to create the first part of my panel.

I then attached this panel to a piece of black card stock and trimmed it down, leaving a 1/16" border. I roughed up the edges with an Edge Distresser and then attached that panel to a piece of Ruby card stock, cut at 5-1/4" x 4".

Next I cut a border strip from the B&T paper that I used for the hexagons to the length of the first panel (4-7/8" x 3-5/8") and a strip of Honey card stock to the length of the final panel (5-1/4" x 4"). I attached the strip to the Honey panel and then trimmed to leave an equal border on the top and bottom. I then attached this to the completed panel.

The sentiment came from the For Always My Stickease and coordinates so well with the papers. I mounted it onto a piece of Ruby card stock and then cut around the image to create a coordinating mat. I then attached this to the card using 3-D Foam tape to give the card some additional dimension. As a final touch to the card I added some Honey Flower pins from the For Always Assortment pack and Bitty Opaques Pearls to both the sentiment and the border strip.

One the inside of the card I used the strip of Lagoon card stock that was left over from cutting out 5 hexagons using the 'shadow' setting which created a slightly larger hexagon than the 1-1/4" ones cut out for the front and inside of the card. I backed this strip with Honey card stock, leaving a slight border on the top and bottom. I then mounted the hexagons on the opening. For the top I cut a strip from the For Always My Stickease and attached it. That I used a scrap of Honey card stock to balance off the color.

Graduation Is Upon Us

As summer approaches so does Graduation!  From Pre-School to Graduate School and everything thing in between.  I love receiving all of the wonderful announcements and seeing the pictures of all of the young people that I have come to know. For some, I have been receiving the announcements since their birth! For others, this is the first time. 

I have been scouring the internet looking for inspiration for creating my own version of a variety of Graduation Cards for these events. Below are a few of my examples or versions of what I found.

Do you have any graduates in your family?  We do! Our lovely daughter and youngest of our blended family, graduates High School and will be moving on to New Mexico State University in the Fall.

The darling little gal (Flower Power Daisy Graduates) on these cards comes from Digital Delights by Louby Loo. Both of these cards are, Gift Card/Money holders, of course!

I am still working on creating a better tassel. I have seen a few versions on YouTube and just need to come up with something that works for me. I found the tutorial for the Graduation Hat card over at DigitalDelights on YouTube. I did change up the measurements as I wanted the card to fit in a standard A2 envelope. Final measurements are 4-1/4" x 5-1/2". The second card was made with the Cricut Artiste Cartridge page 55.  This card was cut at 5".

This is an A2 standard card (4-1/4" x 5-1/2") and I used the Cricut Artiste Cartridge to cut out the star (pg. 68), banner (pg. 35), medallion under the DREAM sentiment (pg. 35) and the circle (pg. 48) on White Daisy card stock. The DREAM stamp is from the Wheel of Life Flair (D1545), the medallion, banners, Congrats and doodle around the Congrats are from the Kudos Collection that is one of three (3) stamps sets that are included with the Cricut Artiste Cartridge. The Celebrate! sentiment and Cap are stickers that I had left over from years of card making.

Having Fun with Originals

If you are a Card Maker then you might be like me.  Often times, I need inspiration for coming up with something different.  That's when I turn to Originals Card Confidence Program® by Close To My Heart's own Jeanette Lynton!  Jeanette provides simple "How-To" instructions with graphics that you can follow or simply use as a starting point. I love to go there for ideas and inspiration. I usually add my own little twist.


In the following video I took the "Winning Combination" design along with some Dream Pop papers, added a few extra embellishments and Wala!

I simply love making cards and with this book, along with countless magazines that I have collected over the years, I am never short on inspiration.

Mojo Monday - 293

I have decided to start participating in Mojo Monday Sketch and Create's Card Blog challenges. I figure this will be a great way for me to share weekly card projects and do a little socializing as well.

This week's sketch, #293 by Julee Tilman, was so fun to work with. The color scheme is part of Create's challenge so I had fun  using some of the super colorful papers from Close To My Heart's Dream Pop collection since they coordinate so well with the posted colors.

To get the 3 focal (circle) shapes I used Cricut® Art Philosophy cartridge, pages 48 and 51.  I also used a Square Lattice Textured Impressions folder to give one of them some texture. The flowers in the center of the 2-layered medallion are Just Blooms™ Paradise Paper Flowers attached with a mini brad. I balanced the card with some ribbon, wrapped three times and tied off with a bow (not sure of sources). The sentiment is also from Close To My Heart, but no longer available.

I have a new FAVORITE Cricut Cartridge

Welcome back everyone and Happy August! 

Last year Close To My Heart (CTMH) came out with their first Cricut cartridge called Art Philosophy and I fell in LOVE. It has been my GO-TO cartridge for everything because it seemed to have everything on it – card shapes, 3D projects, simple shapes and loads more.  Well, now I have a new favorite cartridge because CTMH did it again!  They have a new cartridge out and it is absolutely AMAZING!  It is the Cricut Close To My Heart Artiste cartridge and it has 700 images on it just like the Art Philosophy cartridge! That’s right 700!  (If you click the link above you will be able to see the entire cartridge booklet- page by page, be patient as it will take some time to load.)
